Since there's a bit of chill in the air where we are, turning on the oven and baking something delicious is an excellent way to cozy up and enjoy breakfast at the same time!
We've been making these Double Chocolate Scones for years and they've never let us down!

Simple ingredients enhanced by whatever you can dig up in your cabinets or freezer make these Double Chocolate Scones both delicious and spontaneous!
Now, if you've read our previous post that featured these marvelous bites, you'll know why we were inspired to include nuts!

This wonderful recipe is easy to adapt to your taste and ingredient availability!
Nuts, chocolate chips, dried or fresh fruit and more can be incorporated into the recipe and will be welcome additions for your taste buds!
These are scooped rather than cut, so that makes them a little easier and quicker to make than their more traditional cousins!

Make a batch or two, pop the scones in the oven and enjoy the aroma of a freshly baked batch of scones wafting through your home!
Enjoy as many as you like for breakfast, a teatime snack, or even be daring and have some before dinner...we won't tell anyone, promise!

Double Chocolate Scones - Easy, Decadent & Delicious!

Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Baking Time: 17 minutes
Total Time: 25- 30 Minutes
Servings: 12 Scones
Equipment Needed: Mixing bowl, sheet pan, food scoop & parchment preferred
Special Note: I always mix these by hand. It gives the proper shape and texture.
* Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Ingredients:
Dry Ingredients
1/4 cup brown sugar (any sugar will do!)
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup oats
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 + Heaping Tablespoons Cocoa (optional-leave out if you want the basic flavor to shine through!)
Wet Ingredients
1/2 cup melted butter or oil of choice
1/2 cup milk of choice (we use almond milk with good results!)
3 Tablespoons maple syrup (it works fine without, but it adds a nice flavor and helps hold things together!
The Extra Add Ins - 1 cup of Whatever you Like or Find!
1/2 cup of chopped walnuts (or any nut, seed, etc.!)
1/2 cup chocolate chips (or frozen blueberries, chopped apple, leftover Halloween candy...you get my drift!)
Directions:
Put a sheet of parchment on baking pan/cookie sheet-enough to cover. If not parchment, oil the pan or your scones will bake too fast and be hard to remove!
Mix dry ingredients together in large bowl.
Mix wet ingredients together.
Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix together by hand until just incorporated.
Fold in the Extras until evenly mixed in.
Drop by 1/4 cup scoopfuls on baking sheet. A food disher/scoop is great for this!
Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 17 minutes. Check at 15 minutes in case your oven is in that enthusiastic overheating mode! The scones may take as long as 20 minutes.
Can't wait to make double chocolate scones!
